Ideas for old metal picture frames

I came across this in blogland, and it was SO pretty, I HAD to share it with you.

Remember the old, gold ( or silver), METAL  picture frames? Well, they are still sold today, BUT there are ALOT of older ones out there, and you can get them for next to nothing at thrifts, garage sales, etc. Try to find ones with pretty designs in relief,so that when you do this treatment, the  design will stand out wonderfully! Just make sure they are cleaned WELL ,and then, either use and undercoat, or, use a paint made for metal to keep it from rusting (SPRAY PAINT IS FINE).If you find one  with  a tiny amount of rust, don’t worry, simply sand it a little, and it will never show..as long as the rust has not compromised the metal through the design. You don’t HAVE to do it in white, like these examples, but they sure look lovely and wonderful in the ever loved and shabby chic white! Then, find a pretty rose picture, from and old calendar, etc., do it with or without a mat, and that completes this beautiful and simple but PRETTY look!

Reused old metal picture frames

Reusing old metal picture frames

These are VERY easy to do, and with a beautiful picture of a rose, or flowers, or whatever picture YOU choose to put inside, they turn out beautifully, and would enhance any shabby chic style decor……VERY romantic, don’t you think??!!!

ANOTHER IDEA FOR AN OLD WINDOW

BIRD PRINT ON OLD WINDOW

Hello all!

HERE’S ANOTHER NEW IDEA I FOUND ONLINE FOR YOU….I GET ALOT OF LANDINGS ON MY BLOG FOR THESE, SO I LIKE TO SHARE NEW ONES WITH YOU AS I FIND THEM.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT EITHER DON’T WANT TO DO OTHER TREATMENTS, OR THOSE THAT WANT A NICE LOOK EVEN IF YOU CAN’T PAINT, THIS ONE LOOKS PRETTY SIMPLE……

THIS OLD WINDOW HAS NO DIVIDERS, HAS ONLY ONE LARGE “PANE”, SO IT  WILL BE REAL EASY FOR YOU TO GET THIS LOOK.

LOOK IN FLEA MARKETS, GOODWILL,YARD SALES,ESTATE SALES,ETC., FOR LARGER PRINTS THAT YOU LIKE,WHETHER VINTAGE OR NEW, WHATEVER PRINT OR PICTURE THAT APPEALS TO YOU, OR…. DOWNLOAD CLIP ART FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND PRINT OUT WITH YOUR PRINTER.

THIS ONE LOOKS TO HAVE AN OLD BOTANICAL PRINT  OF BIRDS AND NEST WITH EGGS, SIMPLY GLUED AT THE CORNERS AND SIDES ON THE BACK OF THE OLD WINDOW.

MAKE SURE TO TAKE MEASUREMENTS OF THE INSIDE GLASS PORTION OF YOUR WINDOW TO KEEP WITH YOU WHEN YOU SHOP, AND THEN MEASURE YOUR PRINT TO SEE IF IT WILL FIT AS YOU WANT IT TO. YOU COULD ALSO TAKE A SMALLER PRINT TO A PRINT SHOP LIKE KINKO’S, ETC.,AND FOR A SMALL FEE, THEY CAN MAKE IT THE EXACT SIZE THAT YOU WANT. MOST PUBLIC LIBRARIES HAVE COPIERS ON HAND AS WELL, THAT YOU  CAN USE FOR A SMALL FEE , AND MAKE IT THE SIZE YOU WANT FOR YOUR WINDOW.

HAVE FUN!

SHABBY CHIC CABINET DOOR

THIS IS AN OLD SMALL CABINET DOOR THAT I AQUIRED.

I DECIDED TO DO A COMBINATION OF PAINTING/STENCILING AND DECOUPAGE IN A SHABBY CHIC STYLE.

AS YOU CAN SEE, IT WAS IN FAIRLY GOOD SHAPE EXCEPT FOR SOME MOLD ON THE BACK SIDE.

I SPRAY PAINTED THE WHOLE THING WHITE, COVERING THE OLD GLASS KNOB. THE BACK HAD SOME MOLD ON SOME TYPE OF PRESSBOARD BACK. AFTER SPRAY PAINTING, I THEN USED A CLEAR ACRYLIC SPRAY OVER THE PRESS BOARD BACK, THEN SPRAYED WITH THE WHITE AGAIN TO COVER THE MOLDED PART. THAT PRETTY MUCH SEALED IT IN AND COVERED IT.

I THEN PAINTED THE TWO INSIDE FRONT PANELS WITH AN ACRYLIC PAINT IN  THE COLOR “SANDSTONE”.

THEN  I USED SOME PRETTY WALLPAPER BORDER THAT I HAD IN MY COLLECTION, AND CUT OUT THE FLOWER DESIGNS AND PLACED THEM THE WAY I WANTED THEM, BUT NOT GLUING THEM ON YET.

THEN, I USED A STENCIL IN A PRETTY SCRIPT STYLE, AND USED STENCIL CREME, WHICH IS ALOT LESS MESSY!!!!!

I THOUGH IT WOULD BE PRETTY IN A BATHROOM, SO I CHOSE TO USE THE WORD “SOAP”. YOU CAN CHOOSE TO USE ANY WORD/WORDS YOU WANT. I DID THIS ON THE TOP PANEL, AND ON THE BOTTOM PANEL I JUST HAND WROTE THE WORDS FRENCH MILLED SOAP, AND USED A MARKER TO GO OVER IT.

YOU COULD ALSO TURN THIS WITH THE KNOB DOWN, AND WRITE TWO WORDS, AND USE THE PRETTY GLASS KNOB TO HANG A HAND TOWEL ON. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE ON THE VERTICAL LIKE I HAVE DONE IT.

I THEN GLUED ON THE FLOWERS, LEAVES, AND TWO STRIPS FROM THE BORDER FROM THE PRETTY WALLPAPER IN THE DESIGN THAT I WANTED.

THAT’S PRETTY MUCH ALL THERE IS TO IT, EXCEPT FOR TIDYING UP PLACES WHERE I SMEARED PAINT ON THE WHITE PART WHICH I CAN EASILY TOUCH UP.

I WILL THEN SPRAY THE ENTIRE DOOR WITH A CLEAR ACRYLIC SPRAY (OUT SIDE OF COURSE) WHEN THE PAINT IS DRY AND CURED FOR A FEW DAYS, AND THIS WILL PROTECT YOUR HANDY WORK.

I THINK IT TURNED OUT SO PRETTY…….AND THERE ARE SO MANY VARIATIONS THAT CAN BE DONE WITH THIS.

YOU CAN USE ANY THEME YOU WISH.

WELL, HAVE FUN!!!!  UNTIL NEXT TIME……..Peggy
