SHABBY CHIC TO THE CORE!!

I finally found an expert whom gave me the information I needed to begin another search.

These are obvioulsly very rare in the marketplace! And, if any more remain, they must tucked away in someones china cabinet or attic!

I would love to hear from anyone who has seen any of these (I only found ONE online) or anyone who owns them.

The Jeanette Glassware line of this pattern calledNational” was abundant in the clear glasses, but not in this flash painted shabby pink and green! I did manage to see one that was dark blue, and one like these, but that was IT!

I even searched the links that I keep that sell antique glassware like this, as well as Ebay, etc. and like I said, I only found one glass like these.

Except for few very minor flaws, they are in perfect conditon. Whomever had them before took VERY good care of them. I can just see them on a table serving iced tea or cocktails at some one’s summer party…they are just LOVELY to me!

Very heavy glass, which is what has probably saved them from breakage! They don’t even have ANY chips or cracks for glassware of this age! They must not have been used very much, if at all!Lovely ribbed pattern, flash painted in frosted pink and green, They are shabby chic to the core!!

Another lady customer that was at the counter in line where I purchased them loved them, and said she wished she had seen them first!! She looked amazed, and said she didn’t see them or she would have gotten them for sure! Glad I spotted them first!!!!

She also said that she had seen some like them at some hotel somewhere or other a long long time ago. As it stands now, I would love to hear from any of you if YOU have seen any of these at any time?!?!?! Lucky find for me it seems!!

don’t you love them too…???

Working hard on other things too that I hope to get on Etsy soon. Some lower cost items I’m working on,

A friend just sent me alot of craft supplies, etc. in the mail for my upcoming birthday next Monday.

I sure hope she knows how much I love her and APPRECIATE the generous and beautiful gifts that she has sent to me over the YEARS…….!! I owe her alotso much….for years of giving……friendship…gifts, ideas, confidence, inspiration. She’s the one that first encouraged me to start this blog, and I don’t think she really knows just how much I appreciate her for ALL ot it……but I DO !

Have fun and go create something today!

If I don’t get off of here, I’m not going to get anything done today!! LOL

Another Beachy Decor Design

Well STILL trying to figure out how to do the pictures again!!
I DID manage to get another NEW listing in my Etsy shop yesterday tho!
This is a pretty Sea shell and pearl picture frame I have been finished with for a while now, just couldn’t get the pictures to look as well as I wanted them to, so I worked yesterday trying to get some better “scenery” for it, and I think it turned out pretty well, don’t you? This is not the MAIN listing picture, just one I added to show it with different backgrounds and colors, just go to my shop to see the main listing picture and a couple of others.<a href=”http://www.etsy.com/shop/creekwatercottage”>

Seashell and Pearl Frame

Also I have alot of new supplies that I am about to list as well, and some more vintage listings, so stay tuned and subsbribe to my feed on Etsy (there is a button on my shop that you click on for that)and you will know everytime something new is added on there. Don’t worry, you won’t get bombarded with spam, because it takes me SO long just to get a listing up lately!! LOL. But, I have alot of new ideas for things I want to make that I think you will love as well. I am surprised at the amount of people looking for beachy decor on a regular basis, tho. And, being raised by the shore for more years than I want to admit (hehe)I, too, have that special love for the sea and all it’s beauty. What’s not to love of another one of God’s creation?

Something else I’d like to touch on as well:

I don’t think alot of people realize just how much WORK is involved in just having an Etsy shop, or a website for that matter, and even have the TIME to do it ALL in one day! WHEW! It IS very time consuming, that’s why it’s so important for things like blogs to be SIMPLE instead of
sitting around trying to figure out the NEW way to post pictures since some setting was changed somewhere. Then, the Etsy shop…you have to make your product look as GOOD as possible, ya know????Do you realize just how many pictures I have to take just to find that ONE good picture that you’re happy with??? Especially if you are not a “professional” photographer! LOL
Then the actual MAKING of the product, and the listing process, the picture taking, the wording, the price, the tag words, trying to post on your blog regularly, and trying to run a little shop here too, plus, all my family responsibilities…and so on, and so on!!!
Sometimes I think people just think its really simple to do all this, but it’s NOT!!There is alot of real hard work involved….it doesn’t just do all this stuff by itself you know??LOL
Some people think it just “magically appears” there for all to see, but once you do it, you see just how much time and effort is involved just to get your product “out there”, and then there’s the constant searching for ways to get your shop info “out there” with the search engines, etc.
I mean, who’s got time, after all that, to tweet or FB??
I think managing your time is the key.BUT, I do so ENJOY crafting, and I am as miserable a person as you’ll ever see when I’m NOT creating something…it’s just something that’s in me…I feel like it’s a God given talent that I have been given freely that I MUST share with others. But of course, you would like to make some sort of living by doing the actual “work” part.
Ok,I’ve spent enough time venting on my blog today,so better get ready to do more things today to get more listings up!
Oh yeah! I finally sold the pretty shbby chic vintage rose picture that I had on Etsy.Whoopie! I had so many “likes” on that thing, and it was put in several “treasuries”, so, I’m glad somebody finally bought it and can enjoy it in their home.

Well…..Time’s a wastin’……!!!!!

ANOTHER IDEA FOR AN OLD WINDOW

BIRD PRINT ON OLD WINDOW

Hello all!

HERE’S ANOTHER NEW IDEA I FOUND ONLINE FOR YOU….I GET ALOT OF LANDINGS ON MY BLOG FOR THESE, SO I LIKE TO SHARE NEW ONES WITH YOU AS I FIND THEM.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT EITHER DON’T WANT TO DO OTHER TREATMENTS, OR THOSE THAT WANT A NICE LOOK EVEN IF YOU CAN’T PAINT, THIS ONE LOOKS PRETTY SIMPLE……

THIS OLD WINDOW HAS NO DIVIDERS, HAS ONLY ONE LARGE “PANE”, SO IT  WILL BE REAL EASY FOR YOU TO GET THIS LOOK.

LOOK IN FLEA MARKETS, GOODWILL,YARD SALES,ESTATE SALES,ETC., FOR LARGER PRINTS THAT YOU LIKE,WHETHER VINTAGE OR NEW, WHATEVER PRINT OR PICTURE THAT APPEALS TO YOU, OR…. DOWNLOAD CLIP ART FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND PRINT OUT WITH YOUR PRINTER.

THIS ONE LOOKS TO HAVE AN OLD BOTANICAL PRINT  OF BIRDS AND NEST WITH EGGS, SIMPLY GLUED AT THE CORNERS AND SIDES ON THE BACK OF THE OLD WINDOW.

MAKE SURE TO TAKE MEASUREMENTS OF THE INSIDE GLASS PORTION OF YOUR WINDOW TO KEEP WITH YOU WHEN YOU SHOP, AND THEN MEASURE YOUR PRINT TO SEE IF IT WILL FIT AS YOU WANT IT TO. YOU COULD ALSO TAKE A SMALLER PRINT TO A PRINT SHOP LIKE KINKO’S, ETC.,AND FOR A SMALL FEE, THEY CAN MAKE IT THE EXACT SIZE THAT YOU WANT. MOST PUBLIC LIBRARIES HAVE COPIERS ON HAND AS WELL, THAT YOU  CAN USE FOR A SMALL FEE , AND MAKE IT THE SIZE YOU WANT FOR YOUR WINDOW.

HAVE FUN!

Chic Lampshade Re-do

This is a small Vintage lamp that needed something additional to make it more interesting, and it is very simple to do.

I currently have it in my “Paris Apartment” display, but it looks great with my Shabby Chic display as well. It would work in your “boudoir”, go well with a Chic style decor as a desk lamp, and would also work in a “powder room”, or a girls room.

This lamp looks white, but it is a very light pink swirled glass, and it sits on a marble pedestal .The wiring works fine, even though the plug is one of the vintage round ones. (It is available for purchase for $15.00 plus shipping.)

I had to find a small shade for it, as the one with it was not workable, but I finally found one at a local flea market.(It’s one of those that has a dual wire that fits on the bulb).

The shade I found was kind of discolored, so I got the idea to spray paint it white, and it worked perfectly. I just let it dry/cure for a week or so, and it didn’t give off any fumes of any kind when burning the bulb.(You may want to find a spray paint for fabric instead, but only the pleated part is fabric.Underneath the fabric is plastic). I have a low 40 watt bulb in it, and have never had any problems with the shade.

I had some pretty ribbon edging with crystal droplets in pastel iridescent pinks, etc.sewn into it that I had purchased before, just because I loved it, and knew I would find the perfect use for it down the road.

I measured the length that I needed, for the top rim, and the bottom rim, and simply used glue to attach it. I think it was Aleene’s Tacky glue, or either SOBO fabric glue, I can’t remember which, but either would work. I had a bit of trouble at first until I realized it would be much easier to glue small sections at the time, and used some small clamps(like the old hair roller type) to hold it until the section I had glued adhered.(You also need another clamp to hold the piece that is yet to be glued to keep it out of the way while you work, because the crystals have weight).

It took some trial and error to do it, but I think it was just what it needed to “pretty it up”! (I have seen these in big retail stores, and they are NOT cheap!).

Chic Lampshade re-do

Chic Lampshade re-do

Don’t be afraid to use different style edgings to rehab lamp shades. The ones with feather edgings are good sellers as well, but you can also save yourself some money and do this yourself! The possibilites are only limited by your imagination! Lamps at fleas/goodwill, as long as the wiring is intact (unless you want to rewire it), are good candidates for re-doing.(It’s always a good idea to rewire very old lamps, just to be on the safe side).

There are alot of paint techniques that you can apply to the BASES of older lamps that can update them to match your decor or style, and give them a whole new look! Just remember, if you don’t like your paint job/style, you can always paint over it and start again. When you get it how you want it,(make sure to cover any wiring/sockets), and then spray with an acrylic spray to protect your work.

HAVE FUN!

Shabby Cottage Plant Hanger Re-do

THIS PLANT HANGER HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS!!

IT IS NO LONGER STURDY ENOUGH AS A PLANT HANGER ,BUT IT HAD SUCH A PRETTY DESIGN I KNEW IT COULD BE USED FOR SOMETHING ELSE.

I LOVE THE CURLS OF WIRE ALL AROUND THE OUTSIDE, AND JUST COULDN’T BEAR TO THROW IT OUT.

I FIRST USED A WIRE BRUSH TO GET ALL OF THE OLD PEELING PAINT OFF.

SINCE SOME OF THE BOTTOM  STRUCTURUAL METAL HAD COME    APART, I USED SOME LIGHTWEIGHT WIRE THAT I HAD, AND STARTED WINDING IT BACK AND FORTH AND AROUND OVER AND OVER , PULLING IT TIGHT EACH TIME AND MAKING IT SECURE ENOUGH TO STAY TOGETHER,UNTIL I HAD PUT THE ORIGINAL FORM SORT OF BACK TOGETHER AGAIN, KIND OF IN A SPIDERWEB OR WEAVING DESIGN, UNTIL IT WAS STURDY AGAIN. KIND OF LIKE HAND SEWING, BUT WITH WIRE.

I THEN SPRAY PAINTED THE WHOLE THING WHITE, USING A PIECE OF CARDBOARD BEHIND IT TO CATCH THE EXCESS PAINT AND KIND OF “THROW “IT BACK ONTO THE HANGER INSTEAD OF THE PAINT GOING OUT IN THE AIR.

I HUNG IT ON A LOW BRANCH OUTSIDE TO DO THIS, AS I COULD WALK AROUND IT SPRAY PAINTING IT, AS WELL AS GETTING A GOOD COAT ON THE UNDERSIDE, THE CURLS,AND THE CHAINS CONNECTED TO IT, AS WELL AS THE HOOK AT THE TOP.

SINCE IT IS NO LONGER STURDY ENOUGH TO HOLD A PLANT, (UNLESS IT WAS ARTIFICIAL PLANTS/FLOWERS IN A LIGHTWEIGHT PLASTIC POT), I DECIDED, AS A SHOPOWNER, THAT IT WOULD BE A GREAT PLACE TO DISPLAY VINTAGE LINENS IN THE SHOP!I

iT COULD ALSO BE USED FOR DISPLAY IN A SHOP TO HOLD OTHER LIGHTWEIGHT THINGS , LIKE GREETING CARDS, LINENS FOR SALE, STUFFED ANIMALS,APRONS, PLACEMATS,NAPKINS,POTHOLDERS,OR REALLY ANYTHING THAT WON’T PUT A STRAIN ON THE BOTTOM PART. WE ALL HAVE THINGS IN THE SHOP THAT ARE LIGHT, AND WE ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A PRETTY AND DIFFERENT CONTAINER,SUCH AS THIS, TO DISPLAY THEM IN.

IT WOULD ALSO SERVE WELL USED IN YOUR ‘POWDER ROOM’ HANGING FROM THE CEILING TO HOLD SOME PRETTY HAND TOWELS OR BATHCLOTHS! OR EVEN TO DISPLAY SOME OF YOUR OWN VINTAGE LINENS IN YOUR HOME.

THERE IT IS. “NEW” LIFE FOR AN OLD, BUT PRETTY,PLANTHANGER!

ALWAYS REMEMBER, WHEN SEARCHING YARD SALES, THRIFTS, ETC., DONT SEE THINGS AS THEY ARE, BUT SEE THEM FOR WHAT THEY ‘”COULD”  BE , WITH JUST A LITTLE IMAGINATION AND A CREATIVE TOUCH. HAVE FUN!!

‘TIL NEXT TIME……PEGGY
