Latest Vintage Window Creation & BIG SALE in my Etsy shop!!

I just LOVE doing these old windows. Not just the artwork, but the fact that something old-(and usually going to the landfill)- gets a recycled/refurbished/renewed life with beautiful artwork.

(This one may look uneven, but the fact of the matter is,I had to adjust the pattern to be right, and NOT go by the handle placement on the window, because the handle, in fact, is NOT in the middle of the window. However it is not very noticeable. I just left it as it was instead of taking off the handle and replacing it where it should have been. Obviously, whomever did it, did not pay much attention to detail, or they would have measured for the placement of the handle to be in the exact middle of the window.I also could have taken it off completely and filled the holes and sanded it,but it didn’t really bother me, so I just left it like it was.

I can’t wait to start on another one, however, it will have to wait until after the holidays. I hope to get up enough of a collection to have a show, with plenty of them for folks to choose from. I have some real pretty Tiffany patterns, so that may be the next one I choose. I have ALOT of patterns,so,I will just have to figure which one I want to do next.I have 2 more small window with 4 panes, another one just like this one,and several larger windows as well, so there are plenty of options where my pattern sizes and window sizes are concerned!

I am still looking for a pattern like the ones in church windows.I may end of having to make my own pattern on that one. They look SO lovely on a  windowsill, where the light comes through, but I like them to be just as pretty when the sun goes down! Some people like to hang them on their sun room ceilings, and they are also lovely on a mantel,or hung above it,but the whole thing about them,at least to me is, you really want one placed so the sun shines through it to get the true effect of “stained glass”.

A couple more old window ideas

I grabbed these two pics off the net for you.
Both look pretty easy for you to accomplish as well.

The first one just has clip art printed out and sized to fit the middle pane. This was put on TOP of the glass pane since the glass is frosted. It wouldn’t have showed up very well had it been put behind the pane.
This kind of clip art is abundant for free on: the graphics fairy.com

The second one has photo’s behind the individual panes.

Faux Stained Glass Window

Ok… I felt SO guilty for not showing you this BEFORE now, that I ran out to the shop and took a couple of pics for you real quick.
If you have any questions just send me an email….

THIS is the result……….

Of ONE template square……. see how it all works together to make
the overall design of the window?

This looks SO wonderful with the sun behind it. I will try and bring it in one day and put it up at the kitchen window and take another picture for you so you can see JUST how beautiful it looks with the sunlight behind it!Too cloudy today, but you see how it works with a template…..? You just follow the template, putting it behind each pane as you work on the FRONT part, and it will make one overall design when it is finished!

ANOTHER IDEA FOR AN OLD WINDOW

BIRD PRINT ON OLD WINDOW

Hello all!

HERE’S ANOTHER NEW IDEA I FOUND ONLINE FOR YOU….I GET ALOT OF LANDINGS ON MY BLOG FOR THESE, SO I LIKE TO SHARE NEW ONES WITH YOU AS I FIND THEM.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT EITHER DON’T WANT TO DO OTHER TREATMENTS, OR THOSE THAT WANT A NICE LOOK EVEN IF YOU CAN’T PAINT, THIS ONE LOOKS PRETTY SIMPLE……

THIS OLD WINDOW HAS NO DIVIDERS, HAS ONLY ONE LARGE “PANE”, SO IT  WILL BE REAL EASY FOR YOU TO GET THIS LOOK.

LOOK IN FLEA MARKETS, GOODWILL,YARD SALES,ESTATE SALES,ETC., FOR LARGER PRINTS THAT YOU LIKE,WHETHER VINTAGE OR NEW, WHATEVER PRINT OR PICTURE THAT APPEALS TO YOU, OR…. DOWNLOAD CLIP ART FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND PRINT OUT WITH YOUR PRINTER.

THIS ONE LOOKS TO HAVE AN OLD BOTANICAL PRINT  OF BIRDS AND NEST WITH EGGS, SIMPLY GLUED AT THE CORNERS AND SIDES ON THE BACK OF THE OLD WINDOW.

MAKE SURE TO TAKE MEASUREMENTS OF THE INSIDE GLASS PORTION OF YOUR WINDOW TO KEEP WITH YOU WHEN YOU SHOP, AND THEN MEASURE YOUR PRINT TO SEE IF IT WILL FIT AS YOU WANT IT TO. YOU COULD ALSO TAKE A SMALLER PRINT TO A PRINT SHOP LIKE KINKO’S, ETC.,AND FOR A SMALL FEE, THEY CAN MAKE IT THE EXACT SIZE THAT YOU WANT. MOST PUBLIC LIBRARIES HAVE COPIERS ON HAND AS WELL, THAT YOU  CAN USE FOR A SMALL FEE , AND MAKE IT THE SIZE YOU WANT FOR YOUR WINDOW.

HAVE FUN!

IDEAS FOR OLD WINDOWS

I love old windows! I recently aquired 5 and finally got around to doing something with one of them that I have had planned for a long time.

Mind you, I still have to paint the back before I can put it in the shop for sale, but I thought I’d better show it to you now, so you can get started on yours.

hpim0796.jpg

These old windows can be picked up inexpensively at flea markets, etc. for about $8.00 or so, but if you can find an old house that someone is remodling, you might score some for free! And there’s no rule that says you can’t use new windows, but they may be way more expensive, and besides, I like the look of the old ones better.

You’ll want to thoroughly clean your window. I first used a soft brush to get off the dust. Then I cleaned it with mild soap and water to get off any more residue. You may want to sand off any old paint to make it smooth, or you may want to use it as it is. Just make sure to sand lightly over any parts that may be chipping, so you will get an even finish, and clean off the sanding dust with a damp rag . You may even want to leave it natural, and just do the panes. It’s really up to you how you want your window to look!

All you need is spray paint, and some lace in a pattern that you like.

Lace panels can be found in thrift or Goodwill stores for next to nothing, or you may have some lace, or old lace panel curtains that you could use.

It’s a good idea to heavily starch and iron your lace pieces so that they will lay flat on the glass part of your window. You could even use spray adhesive to hold them down, but I chose not to because I didn’t want any unessecary film on the glass part of the window

Just measure one or two pieces of lace the same size as your window panes and cut them out.

Lay them down on the panes and make sure they are flat and there aren’t any places that are sticking up. It must lay completely flat against the panes.

Then, take your spray paint, any color you wish, (I used a light taupe color), and spray uniformly over your lace.

Continue carefully spraying the sides or wood part.

(If you want the window frame,or wood parts, a different color than your lace panes, then you may want to spray it first, and just put some pieces of poster paper or newpaper, cut the size of your panes to cover them, to prevent overspray on your panes. But then you have to cover the sides to prevent overspray on the frame, or wood part.

Pick up the lace carefully after a couple of minutes, and let dry completely.

That’s all there is to it!

I think they are very pretty and chic, and would look great on a fireplace mantle or hung on the wall. They are also nice for shop props as well, and can be hung from the ceiling. You could also hang things from the top to display things in your shop as a background for your items.

You could use them on a porch or in a sunroom as well.

I am already gathering ideas for the other windows, and will post them in this category when I have some more to show you.

Have fun doing your own, and don’t forget to visit my shop to see some of the new prim inventory that I have !

I am currently working on a website, and will post the link on here when I get it all done.
